Children's Braces And Early Orthodontic Treatment for Children

Early orthodontic treatment can benefit your child in the long run. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children see an orthodontist as early as age seven. When you schedule an initial consultation with our office, we will evaluate whether your child will need orthodontic treatment. Should you need children's braces for your child, we can help!

Early treatment also known as Phase-One typically begins around age eight or nine and Phase-Two will begin around age 11 or older.

How To Tell If Your Child May Need Early Orthodontic Treatment

  • If they start losing baby teeth early
  • If they have a difficult time chewing and/or biting
  • If they breathe through their mouth
  • If they suck their thumb after age five
  • If they have speech impediments
  • If they have protruding teeth
  • If they have teeth that don’t touch
  • If they have a cross bite
  • If they have crowded front teeth around age seven or eight
What Causes Orthodontic Problems, and How Will Early Prevention Benefit My Child?
If your child’s teeth or mouth are experiencing overcrowding, too much space, jaw growth problems, protruding teeth, and more, you should give us a call. Most children lose their baby teeth by age 13 and their jaw bones will harden at the end of their teenage years. When your child receives early orthodontic treatment, it can prevent him or her from having to have teeth extraction or surgery in the future.
